The NFR is a 10-day marathon with highs and lows for almost every contestant. The dream of a go round buckle or a world championship is their hope. Everyone doesn’t get that dream but all the contestants live the dream just by qualifying to the NFR. Team SUCCEED athletes are no different. SUCCEED EQUINE is so proud of all our Team SUCCEED athletes. We understand it is no easy feat to qualify for the NFR or to have success in all 10 rounds. Every athlete on Team SUCCEED had their own shining moments, and we would like to highlight those!
Tyler Wade & Wesley Thorp
This pair of Team Ropers had a fairytale ending to their finals. The reigning World Champions were there to defend their title and defend it they did. At the end of 10 grueling rounds, Tyler and Wesley were crowned the 2024 World Champion Team Ropers!
They came out with a bang winning the first two rounds. Despite a few missteps after those rounds, this team found their stride again and won round 5 also placing in rounds 9 and 10. The Team Roping championship came down to the final round. Tyler and Wesley are no strangers to that kind of pressure. Winning back-to-back World Championships is an accomplishment that few have, and now Tyler and Wesley can add that to their already impressive resume.
Haven Meged
Haven is proof that it doesn’t matter how you start the finals, it’s how you end them. Haven had a slow start to the NFR which is unusual for him. In each round he managed to get times on all his calves keeping him in the average.
Round 5 is where it all turned around for Haven. The halfway point can make or break a lot of athletes, and for Haven it was pivotal. Haven won 2nd in round 5 then went on to win round 6 and placed in rounds 7, 8, and 9. Even though it was a slow start to Haven’s NFR, his perseverance and ability to get a time on all 10 calves paid off. When the dust settled, Haven ended up 3rd in the average which was good for over $55,000 to end his year. Haven ended up 3rd in the World for the 2024 season.
Zack Jongbloed
Zack had a roller coaster of a finals but made the most of every single run. Sometimes things happen that are out of your control which, unfortunately, was the case for Zack in a couple of rounds keeping him out of contention for an average check. Staying mentally strong helped
Zack place in 5 of the 10 rounds winning over $84,000 and finishing his year at 8th in the World!
Shelby Boisjoli-Meged
Shelby was outstanding at the Governor’s Cup which catapulted her to 1st in the World Standings. She went into the finals as the reigning National Finals Breakaway Roping World Champion. Placing in 6 out of the 10 rounds earned Shelby $14,000 ending her 2024 season as 4th in the World. Shelby is considered one of the young great breakaway ropers. This was not the finals she might have anticipated and we look forward to seeing her in 2025 back at the NFR.
Ty Erickson
Ty Erickson is an NFR veteran with this being his 9th NFR qualification. He had a rocky finals compared to what he is used to but was able to capitalize in a few rounds. Ty got the ball rolling in round 2 to place 6th then won round 8 for a $33,000 payday winning over $62,000 for the finals. Ty ended up 14th in the World. With the great horsepower he has under him and his natural ability we will see him come back next year.
