The 7th annual NSBA World Show is coming up August 15-19 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Some of the finest horses in the country will be competing in various pleasure classes from showmanship to western pleasure to working hunters. SUCCEED is proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the 2012 show.
If you haven’t heard of the NSBA before, it stands for National Snaffle Bit Association and has a main mission of promoting the pleasure horse.
NSBA hosts competitions all over the country as well as several individualized programs that promote interest in pleasure horses among young riders, owners, and trainers. Horse and rider pairs earn points for placing at NSBA competitions throughout the year, which qualifies them for the World Show and also earns them money on a pay-per-point basis from the NSBA incentive fund.
NSBA is open to a variety of breeds that compete in the pleasure disciplines. From the Quarter Horse to the appaloosa, NSBA believes in keeping an open playing field when it comes to fairness and has a strong commitment to ensuring animal welfare. They also give back to the horse industry through the NSBA crisis fund.
What is the NSBA World Show?
The NSBA World Show is five days packed full of pleasure horse classes and special events that all highlight the performance horse and their riders. For those who might not be well versed in the performance horse world, the term “pleasure” is applied to a number of horse show classes where the horses will be judged on their manners, performance, and way of moving.World Show Classes
103 World Show classes are open to all recognized breeds and will pay out over $450,000 in cash and prizes. Awards are given to the top 10 in each class. In addition to prize money, entry fees for each class are combined into a jackpot that is then distributed to the winners. Some classes require qualification, while others are open to anyone willing to pay the entry fee. Recognized Breeds:- AQHA (American Quarter Horse)

Breeders Championship Futurity Classes
In addition to the World Show classes, there are also 46 Breeders Championship Futurity classes. Competitors must be enrolled in the BCF, an NSBA program for pleasure horses from yearlings to 6 years old. To be eligible, a horse much be sired by a stallion who was nominated to the BCF in the year the horse was foaled. Prize money is distributed according to how many horses participate in each discipline.Stakes Classes
Five stakes classes are offered at the NSBA World Show: Green Pattern Western, Green Pattern Hunter Under Saddle, Novice Horse/Novice Rider Non-Pro Western Pleasure, Novice Horse/Novice Rider Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle, and Novice Horse/Novice Rider Non-Pro Trail. NSBA has added new classes and age divisions to the World Show this year. Among these changes include a ruling that 5 and 6 year old horses are eligible to show, the addition of open and non pro Western riding and trail classes, and new stakes classes. Showmanship, Horsemanship and Equitation have been added as World Championship Show classes and additional over-fences classes have been added as well.Events to look out for
Aside from the normal classes throughout the week, there are a couple of special events that NSBA hosts every year that are worth noting. Riders with Disabilities includes five different classes that include independent and supported riding in Western and Hunter disciplines. The guidelines are adapted from the AQHA Equestrians with Disabilities and Special Olympics Summer Sport Rules. Heroes on Horses is a special event competition that honors service men and women and the horses that are helping them heal. Riders who participate are disabled veterans or active duty “wounded warriors” who are participating in PATH International Equine Services or other Heroes programs.
